Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

The Partner walked out of the house this morning on his way to work with a purple umbrella tucked under his arm. "I'm going toleave this in your car because it's supposed to rain today."

It was a sweet, protective gesture on its face. I think I swooned a bit. But it was early, and my mind was still cloudy. Things became clearer When I really started to think about the underlying meaning.

This is what raingear says about my general level of competence in any given situation: Not only do I not know enough to come in out of the rain, but I'm incapable of remembering my own umbrella.

On the bright side, The Boss always remembers her umbrella.

  1. Yep. This is something I would ruminate on, too. Only I'd be like: "Rain? So what's a little rain? We'll dry."

  2. And that is why my umbrella just stays in the car.

  3. Well, every partner brings different strengths and weaknesses. Besides, I imagine being the sort of person who "forgets" to come in from the rain might imply you are someone who thinks outside the box. (Are you buying this?) Every partnership needs someone who thinks outside the box!

  4. I love it. Sounds like my Big Strong Man and your guy could share some stories. ;-) Mostly, I take such gestures with "aplomb". That is to say, he's looking after me, and how many guys are really thinking of anyone other than themselves that often...really? And if I were honest, I would have had to admit that my umbrella could have been anywhere...

When I got back from BlogHer in SF recently, it was almost disappointing to see just how much my family didn't need me while I was gone. Seriously. My BSM would be a better single parent than I would ever be. It's sad.

  5. I am just so sick of this rainy summer I don't want to see an umbrella again!

  6. So how long did it take you to go from optimistic cheer to self-deprecating pessimism,?

  7. We've got tons of umbrellas of every color, size and shape...EVERYWHERE! This made me smile. Oh, and BTW, "The Boss" is adorable. - Nards

  8. I haven't seen rain in so long I'd probably drown it.
